The TOCON E2 is a UV-Index filtered sensor containing a high performance SiC UV photodiode and an amplifier that outputs 0-5 V, all in a TO-5 package. The TOCON E2 is used for UV-Index measurement with very small error (<+/- 3%). The spectral response is compliant to CIE087 / DIN5050.
Also consider an optional TOCON Starter Kit. The TOCON Starter Kit is a very convenient and easy way to set up your TOCON, provide supply voltage to the sensor and amplifier and to readout the 0-5 V output signal. The kit contains a socket for your TOCON, 9V battery and battery connector and easy output connection via banana plugs to your voltmeter.
Information about the UV-Index (UVI)
The UV-Index is an international standard measurement of how strong the ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun is at a particular place on a particular day. It is a scale primarily used in daily forecasts aimed at the general public. The UV-Index is calculated by integrating the sun’s UV spectrum multiplied with the Erythema action curve (see spectral responsivity). That integral is divided by 25 mW/m2 to generate a convenient index value, which becomes essentially a scale of 0 to 10. The Erythema action curve is a wavelength resolved measure of the sunburn danger. It is maximized at 297 nm (UVB) and then strongly decreases towards UVA radiation. The Erythema action curve is a wavelength resolved measure of the sunburn danger.
